Isn’t it fun to have money you must spend? You can’t depend on a budget surplus occurring every year, but when you have one, it can feel like found money. Rather than enjoy a spurious spending bonanza, we’d like to offer a few suggestions on the best places to drop that well-taken-care-of cash.
Invest in Your People
‘Tis the season for thankfulness, generosity, and giving. Your team supports you year-round. Nothing boosts morale like receiving a toilet nightlight from your boss…
Seriously, though, take your people out for a great lunch, or show them they’re appreciated with some small token of gratitude. Pass out movie tickets, gift cards, or bottles of wine. Offering them your thanks will reap rewards in the new year.
Chuck Your JUNK
Give your office a glow up. (You heard me right, I said GLOW UP. Yeah, I don’t really know what that means, either.) Get one new thing for the office; you’d be surprised at how excited people will get. It could be new chairs or a new phone system. Want them to really love you? Buy a fancy Keurig coffee machine.
Pack Your Calendar
Send your team—or yourself—to a conference. The end of the year is typically your last chance to receive early-bird specials on your conference passes.
So what’s the takeaway? Spend your surplus thoughtfully. Invest in happy employees, an efficient office, and opportunities to meet new and interesting people.
Not just suggestions for end-of-year spending, but probably words to live by.
Happy holidays to all.
